Welcome to Richard Marshall, and thank you for taking the time to review a small sampling of our hand-crafted work. I have been creating flooring for more than four decades, and have worked with many of the most talented people in the industry. In 1995, I started Richard Marshall Fine Flooring as a way to bring to the marketplace my experience in providing beautiful flooring that has a sense of warmth and charm.

The input of top designers, architects, and others with refined taste and historic perspective has had the largest influence on what we make today. Breakthroughs in color work, textures, and finishes have come from listening and being willing to experiment as we worked to meet and exceed our clients' expectations. Several of our most unique projects have been the result of a skilled craftsman starting with an existing sample, applying a technique we had not previously tried, and creating a beautiful, never-before-seen floor. We continually encourage our artisans to explore new ideas.

For many years, we installed unfinished flooring and then tooled, scraped, pegged, sanded, colored, and finished these floors on site. This is still an important part of our business, but some years ago we faced a dilemma that led to a transformation of our company and our industry. A luxury hotel had ordered flooring from us with the expectation that we would do all of the necessary finishing on site to complete the project. Prior to beginning the installation, we visited the project to meet with the hotel's management, and found that they had no intention of closing the hotel while we were installing and finishing their flooring. The hotel's patrons would never have stood for the dust, disruption, and chemical odors that result from a flooring installation of this magnitude. The installation also would have taken longer than management wanted. To solve this problem, we made and finished the flooring modules in our facility prior to shipping them to the hotel. The installation was completed successfully and on time. The result was a delighted client, and the knowledge that high-end wood flooring could be finished prior to installation.

Since that time, Richard Marshall has gone on to pioneer a new market niche: custom designed, shop-finished flooring. To date, we have millions of square feet in homes, hotels and country clubs around the world.
